¡Hola! Soy Juan Manuel López Manfré, músico y antropólogo. Aquí podrán encontrar mi música, mis videoclips y también mi costado más antropológico, el podcast Antropología Pop.
En el podcast hablo de música desde una perspectiva antropológica, cruzando artistas musicales con autores de las ciencias sociales. A veces entrevisto personas claves para construir nuevas miradas a fenómenos musicales como la música urbana, el pop, el rock, etc. La idea es que hablemos de música como si se nos jugara la vida en ello, fieles a la premisa de que hay algo tan lindo como hacer y escuchar música, y eso es conversar sobre música. Música y antropología para la vida.
Soy Juan Manuel López Manfré, antropólogo, músico y desde estas coordenadas pienso el mundo. Me encanta pensar en vivo. Por eso estos videos que estás viendo no tienen guión, sino que prendo la cámara con apuntes anotados en un borrador que me sirven como puntos de partida o de llegada. Desde 2019 empecé a hacer el podcast Antropología Pop.

The use of stock music on Reality TV (Gordon Ramsay & Kitchen Nightmares, America's Got Talent, The Bachelor, Married at First Sight, etc.) has become more blunt over the last 20 years, constantly reusing the same tropes to present a simplistic, highly reified portrait of people & animals. Misrepresenting the world. In this video I break down the most common musical tropes used across various types of Reality TV comparing them to similar tropes used in nature documentaries to show how manipulative and unsophisticated they are.

Part of the British Council Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011, the show subsequently toured to the Middle East, Croatia, Russia, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Colombia, Thailand and India.
Directed by Don Boyd, this film is a Hibrow production, recorded at The Place in March 2012 in its last performance in London. The film was shortlisted in the Live Performance Relay category at San Francisco Dance Film Festival in 2013.

One process for burnishing fine clay plaster; this is wet burnishing, where clay is dampened first, then the creamy clay that comes to the surface is compressing into any micro-pores in the surface. This particular example is a pedestal sink that I burnished over a dozen times using this method. The result is a very smooth tight surface. The sink bowl is coated with as much hardening oil as it would absorb (I use linseed stand oil) to repel water.

Rafael Bonachela, artistic director of Sydney Dance Company, and the composer Ezio Bosso, together devised the work and music for The Land of Yes and the Land of No as a collaboration with HiBROW. Rafael took the bold move of rehearsing and performing the piece on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral over three consecutive weekday lunchtimes. The work was received with great enthusiasm, and audiences grew each day as word spread of this extraordinary event. Mobile technology allowed the HiBROW team to immerse themselves in the project, allowing the viewer into the heart of it in a way seldom seen on screen before.

Derek Jarman creates a visual evocation of Benjamin Britten’s choral masterpiece, The War Requiem, which blends the Latin Mass of the Dead with the poignant poetry of Wilfred Owen. Dramatised scenes featuring spellbinding performances from an extraordinary cast are interwoven with cinematic, poetic images and harrowing archive footage, which all serve to recreate the horrors of 20th century wars – the loss of innocence, the unbearable suffering, the nightmares, the tragic waste of life. When HiBROW approached Dominic Hill, artistic director of the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, to serve as its first curator of theatre he explained that he had wanted to preserve the theatre's 50 year old international reputation as the champion of fresh contemporary playwriting. To demonstrate that, he commissioned five leading British writers to write a half hour play which would unapologetically rely on text and be performed in what is now regarded as an established 'hybrid' platform for new plays: the 'staged reading'.
All is Vanity is one such play, directed by the wonderful David Eldridge.
