Today we visit another beautiful location for milky way shooting in South East Tasmania. Although a really scenic and sheltered spot, I did run into a few issues with stray lights and random clouds that threatened to spoil my night completely.

While most of the planet warms, a patch of ocean south of Greenland—often called the “cold blob” or “North Atlantic warming hole”—is not warming. In fact, depending on which years you look at, it has actually cooled since industrialization. In this video we investigate this odd phenomenon which has implications for the future of our climate and the stability of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). The AMOC is a system of currents that transports heat from the tropics to the North Atlantic, regulating weather patterns across Northwestern Europe and beyond. However, recent evidence suggests this vital system may be weakening. Could human-induced climate change, specifically the warming of the ocean and the influx of freshwater from melting ice, be pushing this circulation toward a tipping point? We take a journey through centuries of oceanographic discovery to understand the overturning circulation, the urgency of research on the AMOC, and what the potential collapse of this system could mean for the stable world we built our civilizations on.

When he wrote this remarkable letter to a friend in 1912, D. H. Lawrence was newly and turbulently in love with Frieda Weekley, a German author who had left her husband and children to be with him. Clearly, the pressure was unbearable for all involved. Two years later, Lawrence married Frieda. They remained together until his death.

What makes two volcano-born pigments so dangerous? Hint: they weren’t scorching hot when artists used them. Orpiment and realgar both contain arsenic, a foe we’ve previously faced on ‘Stories in Colour’.
From volcanoes to ancient alchemical practices, art historian Evie Hatch joins Beks to uncover the origins and histories of these orange and yellow pigments. Together, they discuss how orpiment and realgar have been used, where their names come from and the risks artists faced painting with them.

Que ironia, o nome da sala da Comissão de Constituição e Justiça homenageia o Rubens Recalcatti, justo ele que assassinou uma pessoa rendida e ajoelhada em Rio Branco do Sul, região metropolitana de Curitiba. O deputado que cometeu o crime mais grave possível, assassinato, mesmo assim não foi julgado pela Assembleia do Paraná! Pelo contrário, ficou lá até seus últimos dias e segue “honrado” na comissão mais importante da casa.
Outra ironia: Ademar Traiano, o deputado que eu eu denunciei e provei que é corrupto, também não foi levado à Comissão de Ética, não respondeu processo e nem recebeu punição alguma. Pelo contrário, acabou “honrado” com o cargo de presidente da Comissão que me julgou e condenou.
Isso tudo junto deixa de ser ironia e vira chacota!

Dogs aren’t just pets. They’ve been part of human life for roughly 20,000 years—about 10,000 years longer than cats and thousands of years before horses entered our lives. For millennia they’ve hunted with us, traveled with us, guarded us, slept beside us, and become part of our families.
There’s also biology behind it. Humans and dogs experience mutual oxytocin release when we interact, strengthening the bond between us.
Maybe that’s why losing a dog can feel so devastating. They’re often the family member we see every single day.
