One process for burnishing fine clay plaster; this is wet burnishing, where clay is dampened first, then the creamy clay that comes to the surface is compressing into any micro-pores in the surface. This particular example is a pedestal sink that I burnished over a dozen times using this method. The result is a very smooth tight surface. The sink bowl is coated with as much hardening oil as it would absorb (I use linseed stand oil) to repel water.
