Hong Kong’s first astronaut Lai Ka-ying and her two fellow Shenzhou-23 crew members are delivering a live lecture from space. The activity, jointly organised by the Hong Kong and Macau governments and the China Manned Space Agency, includes an expert lecture, an in-orbit demonstration and a question-and-answer session to showcase the environment in space.

Dashcam footage captured the moment that driver Loek Hartog risked his own life to pull rival Ollie Millroy out of a burning car after a three-vehicle collision at the Shanghai International Circuit. The crash, which took place during the China GT Championship on Saturday, sparked fierce criticism of the organisers’ safety protocols and emergency response. Ollie Millroy remains in intensive care at a Shanghai hospital.

Wednesday marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Mao Zedong, founding father of the People’s Republic of China. Chinese authorities did not announce any plans to mark the date, as former state leaders are usually commemorated on their birth anniversaries. The only exception was at the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in Beijing, which opened for an extra three hours on Wednesday. Supporters also gathered to pay tribute in his hometown Shaoshan, in central Hunan province.

Huawei goes on trial in the US for racketeering

Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies went on trial in the US on Tuesday on criminal charges after eight years of legal wrangling with the US government. The Shenzhen-based company has pleaded not guilty to all 14 counts, including bank fraud, wire fraud, trade secret theft and racketeering, with the alleged criminal activity dating back to 1999.
