この地方では良質の花崗岩が採れるため、古くから石を生活用具として加工、利用してきた。石材業の起源は約500年前に始められた仏石作りといわれる。
繊細優雅な彫刻に優れ重量感に溢れる製品は、苔が付くことによって一段とその特徴が生かされ、日本庭園などに一層の趣を加味する。

The making of Makabe-ishidoro originated about 500 years ago.
Various stonework has been crafted since olden times, as good quality granite is abundant in this region.
Ishidoro is a stone lantern made of granite,
and they are placed in shrine or temple precincts prized for its exquisite carving
and solemnity, providing rustic flavor to Japanese gardens.
