Muitos crimes ainda seguem impunes e parte da população desconhece ou releva as atrocidades de um regime que registrou pelo menos 502 casos de tortura ocorridos no DOI-CODI, de acordo com A Comissão Nacional da Verdade. 

No Pauta Pública desta semana, a historiadora Janaína Teles conta como a ditadura atravessou sua vida e a de sua família. Ainda criança, Janaína foi levada ao DOI-Codi e obrigada a ver seus pais, militantes políticos, serem torturados a mando do torturador, coronel do Exército, Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra. O episódio discute a importância da memória, da justiça e da responsabilização do Estado sobre os crimes cometidos. A urgência da preservação da memória como instrumento de defesa da democracia, para fazer valer o “Ditadura, nunca mais!”.
