Columbine Hall is the home of newspaper publisher Hew Stevenson. He and his late wife first saw a very different sight in November 1992: a concrete farmyard covered in mud, but the moat was breached and the couple embarked on a lifelong transformation. They gradually demolished grain silos, buried overhead wires and removed asbestos. View were enhanced by planting 1,000 English native woodland trees, and a garden of vistas emerged โฆ

Enย route to Cornwall for a forthcoming episode of Unlocked, Phin swung by The Art Barn, a kinetic structure designed by Thomas Randall-Page of the new architecture practice, THING. The barn is the archive and studio for Thomas' father, the sculptor Peter Randall-Page. Sequestered in the woods near Peterโs home in Devon, the studio chimes with the wide material vocabulary of Peterโs practice and calls upon Peter and Thomas's knowledge of local materials and expertise. In it, sliding doors, a window that pivots and a balcony that folds open โlike a gadget from Wallaceย and Gromit" give this barn its unique character.

โEvery home has its own sound world,โ says musician and sound artist Alice Boyd. As long-time admirers of Aliceโs mesmerising soundscapes, we invited her to create a โsonic portraitโ of Hunts Green Barn, an award-winning home in the Chiltern Hills of East Oxfordshire, recently on the market with us. We follow Alice as she creates her field recordings, which capture the gentle rhythms of the house and the surrounding landscape. Alices field recordings have been set to three original compositions you can listen to on Spotify.
