No segundo dia, a privação de sono tornava difícil fazer as coisas mais simples, como fechar a tampa de uma garrafa de água, saber se é nascer ou pôr do sol, ou controlar emoções. Oscilava entre extremamente triste, irritada, indiferente. Chorava e ria por qualquer coisa. O gelo se escondia entre as ondas, e eu só o via ao me aproximar demais. Perdi meu senso de humor, que talvez fosse minha arma secreta. Sem fome, nem sede, nem sensação de perigo. Apenas existia e desviava, esperando ver águas livres e líquidas.

Le deuxième jour, le manque de sommeil rendait difficiles les gestes les plus simples, comme fermer le bouchon d’une bouteille d’eau, savoir s’il s’agissait du lever ou du coucher du soleil, ou encore contrôler mes émotions. J’oscillais entre une profonde tristesse, l’irritation et l’indifférence. Je pleurais et je riais pour un rien. La glace se cachait parmi les vagues, et je ne la voyais que lorsque je m’en approchais de trop près. J’avais perdu mon sens de l’humour, qui était peut-être mon arme secrète. Je n’avais ni faim, ni soif, ni sentiment de danger. J’existais simplement et je contournais les obstacles, dans l’attente de voir des eaux libres et liquides.

On the second day, sleep deprivation made it hard to do even the simplest things, like closing the cap on a water bottle, telling whether it was sunrise or sunset, or controlling my emotions. I swung between feeling extremely sad, irritated, and indifferent. I cried and laughed over the slightest thing. The ice was hidden among the waves, and I could only see it when I got too close. I lost my sense of humor, which was perhaps my secret weapon. I felt neither hunger nor thirst, nor any sense of danger. I simply existed and swerved, hoping to see open, liquid water.
We sat Bernie Sanders down with them for a messy debate that isn’t happening in the public right now.
If we’re going to live with AI and push for a future that benefits working people, we need more conversations like this one.

Sometimes, it’s easier to make a bit of a mess, if it means properly securing the handle in place.
I hate to do it but the effort required to join the end of the handle without creating any mess simply isn’t worth it. In this instance, as it attaches so closely to the bottom of the cup, it would take some real finesse and care to avoid smearing any excess over the trimmed base, thus I simply let the clay smudge over, then I’ll tidy all of them up a day later, after the soft handles have turned leather hard.
The thing is, throughout the handling process itself, as the cup is moved around on the workbench or when it’s picked up and put down, it’s actually quite difficult to avoid marking the base in some way shape or form. Clay is soft, even when it’s leather hard, and so avoiding any kind of indentation or scratch is nearly impossible.
All of this is to say, that sometimes it makes things easier if you allow the chaos to occur if it speeds things up, only to then tidy any scruffiness up later in a more dedicated and purposeful manner.
Elif Shafak (b. 1971, Strasbourg, France) is an award-winning British Turkish novelist, whose work has been translated into fifty-eight languages. She is a bestselling author of twenty books, thirteen of which are novels, in many countries worldwide. Shafak’s novel, 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and the RSL Ondaatje Prize. The Island of Missing Trees was a Sunday Times bestseller and was shortlisted for the Costa Novel Award and the Women’s Prize for Fiction. There are Rivers in the Sky, which won an Edward Stanford Award for Fiction, is her latest novel. Shafak holds a PhD in political science and is a Fellow and a Vice President of the Royal Society of Literature. She was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres medal and, in 2024, was awarded the British Academy President’s Medal for ‘her excellent body of work which demonstrates an incredible intercultural range’.

Muitos pesquisadores de agropecuária regenerativa, abordam diversos temas e caminhos para tornar a agropecuária mais sustentável, porém, a grande maioria se foca no solo, na microvida e suas relações com as plantas. Ernst Götsch focou suas pesquisas principalmente acima do solo, nos responsáveis principais por essa mesma microvida abundante e plena, que produzem abundância para mamíferos de porte grande e solo fértil, as árvores. No próximo episódio vamos abordar o que aprendemos até agora com a estratificação, como combinar as plantas para produzir agroecossistemas de abundância. Um tema fulcral, primordial e disruptivo.
