No dia 17 de abril de 2016, o Brasil acompanhou a votação do segundo pedido de impeachment de um presidente da República desde a redemocratização do país. Diferente do ocorrido com Fernando Collor em 1992, que renunciou ao cargo antes da votação final, o processo contra Dilma Rousseff chegou até o fim, e o período foi marcado por polêmicas e ataques misóginos à então presidente.
Casa cheia, burburinho, empurra-empurra e faixas estendidas compunham o cenário da Câmara dos Deputados na tarde que entraria para a história. As justificativas de voto apresentadas pelos deputados se tornaram momentos emblemáticos, como a de Jair Bolsonaro, então deputado federal pelo Rio de Janeiro, que dedicou seu voto ao torturador Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra, responsável por torturar a própria Dilma durante a ditadura militar.
Um dos protagonistas no dia da votação foi Jean Wyllys, então deputado pelo PSOL, que foi ofendido por Bolsonaro e reagiu com uma cusparada. Após o ocorrido, Jean passou a sofrer ameaças a ponto de decidir abandonar a carreira política e sair do país. Dez anos depois, ele conversa com Andrea Dip no Pauta Pública, analisando os impactos que a histórica votação e o impeachment de Dilma como um todo tiveram na política e na sociedade brasileira - e o que está em jogo nas eleições de 2026.
