A revista Pesquisa FAPESP está começando uma nova etapa, com o desafio de alcançar ainda mais leitores, experimentar novos formatos e estreitar ainda mais a conversa entre ciência e sociedade — algo essencial num momento em que as decisões coletivas dependem cada vez mais de compreender o que a ciência diz, e o que ela ainda não sabe. Tudo isso, sem perder a profundidade nem trair a complexidade dos temas que sempre cobriu, com responsabilidade e qualidade, ao longo de 27 anos de história. 

O formato impresso tradicional, que os leitores conhecem e valorizam, será mantido, e haverá reforço no uso de meios digitais de comunicação, que são mais ágeis e difundidos atualmente.

Nas próximas semanas, a revista operará em ritmo de transição, com um breve hiato na publicação de edições impressas. É um intervalo necessário para que tudo entre em vigor com consistência e substância. Em breve, os leitores encontrarão uma Pesquisa FAPESP reformulada, editorial e graficamente. Novas reportagens já estão sendo publicadas em formato digital, disponíveis neste site e nas nossas redes sociais; e a próxima revista impressa está prevista para setembro.

A missão permanece a mesma: fazer com que a pesquisa chegue a quem a financia — a sociedade — e seja por ela apropriada, para que todos entendam por que esse esforço vale a pena. A iniciativa, uma colaboração entre a Gerência de Comunicação da FAPESP e o Laboratório de Estudos Avançados em Jornalismo da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Labjor/Unicamp), traz a essência da revista Pesquisa FAPESP para um formato moderno e dá continuidade a um compromisso firmado matéria a matéria, edição a edição — e que a sociedade brasileira ajudou a construir.

Por que a gente se sente cada vez mais distante da seleção brasileira? Que peso as derrotas históricas têm nesse fenômeno? Por que nossos jogadores vão atuar fora do país cada vez mais cedo? A few days ago, I published a new Naked Cartoonist article titled “How to Avoid a Horror Show Marriage.” (I should know, I’ve had two.) It’s been quite popular (and not at all political!), so here’s an excerpt to whet your appetite. 

“Couples therapists wisely recommend being in a relationship for two or three years before deciding to marry. That’s because while nothing feels more euphoric and transcendent than falling in love, it also renders you the stupidest that you’ll ever be. Those two years give that toasted marshmallow explosion in your skull time to morph back into a working brain.

That advice comes from people who’ve made a career of listening to spouses complain about each other, often with tears, shouting, and gnashing of teeth. Trust them when they tell you not to rush into it.

I rushed into my first two marriages like I was saving children from a flaming orphanage, which would have been less dangerous than those marriages turned out to be.”

The article also contains some of my favorite comics about relationships and matrimony. It’s sort of a humorous “how to” and “how not to” manual on marriage. 

I only charge $5 a month for my entire archive of articles, and I post one every two weeks. I’m not trying to get rich, just looking to compensate myself for the time I spend looking for ways to keep you entertained.
